Isn't woad what the Picts are popularly described as using for the blue markings? Apologies, I am SUPER sleep-deprived. Here's an example of woad-dyed fiber, and another. Mind you, I have very limited experience with dyeing (natural dyes or otherwise) but it's awful pretty. :3

That is certainly how I first heard of it, but I didn't know how silk specifically would take it! Most of the woad-dyed fabrics I have seen have been, basically, archaeological. I think it is very cool that you can just find yarns with it for sale.
