I have to admit I've never been particular wild about the whole ballad group genre, but it's like céili bands and skiffle--it got so many folk started and kept so many eyes in the direction of folkloric music and paved the way for trad to actually get a modicum of public respect...
He'll be much missed, but what he did will live after him.

Saw Liz and Yvonne Kane tonight--they're sisters, a fiddle duo from Letterfrack, Co. Galway. Drove out for the gig from Boston where they're staying, and, amazingly, drove back the same night. I just looked at their website, in hopes of commending them to your attention, but their gig tommorrow's in Worcester, which I gather is some distance from you, and then they're off to Canada.
Well, next time they're in your vicinity, I recommend them highly.
