How do we sleep while our beds are burning?

For whatever it is worth to history, I wish to register that I do not like finding out that we are suddenly at war with Iran. I do not need any more specters of annihilation, nuclear or otherwise. I get enough stress from my regular life.

(These Crusader fantasists. My entire lifetime. Their Armageddon wet dreams. Why will the sand not eat them alone.)

Agreed. They are all motherfuckers - and I apologize to motherfuckers for using the term.

Oedipus had ethics!

One of my few smiles of the day; thanks.

I'm significantly older than you are, and my life, too, has been dominated in that fashion.

I thought of my parents while leaving that comment. It's been going too long.

My grandfather fought in the War to End All Wars.

Humans are such fools.

Poor Phil. That song is like a cry to a world that was determinedly ignoring it.

And, as Jeff Tiedrich calls him, you should pardon the vulgarity, Piss Drunk Pete Hegseth climbs up from the sewers to assure us that peace is at hand. And he even lacks some of the (ultimately useless) gravitas that Neville Chamberlain showed.

That's as accurate a way to describe what we're living through as any I might have thought of. At this point, I'm assigning some Fluffy Bunny time for myself in the coming week, and I hope you can have such relief as well.

(Fluffy Bunny time is a term my Best Beloved and I long ago borrowed from a friend who uses it to describe the necessity of backing away from horror by thinking of fluffy baby animals for as long as needed for continued mental and emotional health.)

Yeah, "back in time for Christmas pudding" keeps running through my head from a Comparative Government textbook in high school (touching on the Great War) and I am not even sure, as a USAn, what Christmas pudding entails! (I can Google it.)

I hate that time keeps going by and we keep watching these powerful assholes fighting wars that harm so many people, and things don't change.

On a lighter note, that song is very appropriate and also a banger, so many of their songs are! "Put Down That Weapon" comes to mind, also "We Resist". <3

This, this, this. It's sickening and enraging and I feel like I've been sickened and enraged nonstop for coming on 30 years now -- and it started long before that, that's just when I remember becoming aware of it -- and they remain smugly impervious and the sand hasn't eaten them yet. I hate it with every fiber.

You know, I thought back in the early nineties we'd put the demon of nuclear war behind us. Sorry about the language, but - I'd call them cunts but they lack both warmth and depth. I want these warmongers in hell.

Great-grandpa took shrapnel all along one side somewhere in Virginia before he deserted and went home to provide for his family. Dad was bombed and torpedoed at Pearl Harbor a couple months before his enlistment was up, but he made it through that particular "for the duration." Big brother number two was KIA in Vietnam when I was six; Dad said he'd pay for his other sons to go to Canada if necessary for them to avoid the draft. He didn't have to, fortunately. People urged me to enlist and go through Officer Training School, they said I'd prosper in the military. But that was 1983 and I refused to serve under Reagan. My son, 23, will NEVER serve under the current CinC. Public expression of my true feelings about *him* might get me prosecuted.
