Since I am not on Tumblr, I just discovered the existence of Bigfoot's Biggest Fan's "The Slur Song" (2025). It is indeed phenomenally catchy, radio-unsafe, and should clearly be snapped up for the soundtrack of some queer indie film. The antiquity of some of the terms cautioned against by the rhythmically stilted collage of the HR presentation is simultaneously amusing and alarming, especially as the corporate sanitization of the lyrics piles up into erasure rather than protection—who but one queer co-worker in this day and age is going to refer to another as "light in the loafers" or a "Castro clone"? The fact that I played this song several times in a row and then played some Pansy Division suggests that queercore is alive and well and danceable.

It was fun to discover! I had just started to see people referring to "the slur song" and was wondering with slight apprehension what kind of slurs they were talking about. Long-term roommates! Ass bandit! Broadway fan!

From what I heard, Australian Spotify pulled it when they noticed it but all the Australian gay bars had already downloaded it and were playing it with great enthusiasm.

PS – I *think* Bigfoot’s Biggest Fan also put it up for download on iTunes, and it charted there for a bit.

Now I’m remembering how when Dave! Malki’s and Ryan North’s first Machine of Death anthology was published they asked that any of fans thinking of buying a copy online buy it on Oct 26, just so they could see if they could get it to the top of Amazon’s best-seller list , even if it only stayed there one day.
