I'm going out there and I'm going fast and going hard

By one in the morning, the sky was shirring over with city-reflecting cloud, but at midnight it was still clear and moonless and we watched the small bright flashes of the Quadrantids whose radiant is in the northern rim of Boötes, like static around the head of Draco, although [personal profile] spatch saw a fireball at the zenith and right before I turned back to the car to join him, a great line of light dropped earthward from the handle of the Plough.

WHRB has become our night-driving go-to because after ten o'clock it switches from classical music to whatever deranged genius occurs to the DJs until dawn and its highlights tonight included Heavens to Betsy's "Axemen" (1994), LiLiPUT's "I Had a Dream" (1981), Kraftwerk's "Spacelab" (1978), the Casual Dots' "I'll Dry My Tears" (2004), and James Chance's "Contort Yourself" (1979).

For the last night of Hanukkah, which was New Year's Day, we lit the eighth candle for the future.

I think it’s a great idea! Don’t mind me, I’m cranky. Especially you and Spatch deserve a nearby future with a break and a lottery ticket.

Hurray Quadrantids! "Static around the head of Draco" is evocative and wonderful.

I look forward to checking out some of these songs.

Thank you (and the industrious DJs of WHRB) for the music links. Will pass some of 'em along on Tumblr.

Yay LiLiPUT and James Chance! I love hearing stuff like that on the car radio. (On my car radio this afternoon I heard Richard Hell and the Rezillos.)
