All you ever wanted was the liminal

So [personal profile] selkie needed the Atlantic and whole-bellied clams and Revere Beach was right there.

It felt a little on the nose that our gorgeously autumn-reflecting beach was drifted over with the smoke of a brush fire. We took joy in the sea.

I loved these strewn sea-shadows in the sand.

The water was dead freezing and Selkie looked at home.

The sea seemed to have left its own offering.

It was five years to the day since we had last been in New England together.

I was picking a piece of white quartz out of the tide.

Its tattered and beautiful strandings.

The traditional photographer's shadow.

We put our shoes back on and watched the light change over the water.

Selkie stood my photography with commendable patience.

We got a medium box of fried clams from Kelly's and in accordance with our ancestral customs ate them in the car because of the wind chill. The smoke made a Krakatoa sunset.

And then we drove home via Route 1 and collected [personal profile] spatch and [personal profile] rushthatspeaks and barbecue from Blue Ribbon and I had dinner with my mother and both of my husbands and the mother of my godchild and time seems to have lasted several days more than usual, which is as a flying visit should be. Because we have to get up at stupid o'clock for the train, of course we stayed up talking.

How lovely! Thank you for sharing the experience with us. My only complaint is that now I want Kelly's.
