See the shadow on the wall
Of relevance to people who care about lighthouses, their keepers, and workers not suddenly having their jobs and lives pulled out from underneath them: "Workers' union, former lightkeepers concerned with Coast Guard's decision to destaff B.C. lighthouses." Canadians, feel free to write your senators, MPs, the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard. Non-Canadians, please signal-boost if you can. It's a lost battle where I live: before I was ten, the last staffed lighthouse left in the U.S. was the Boston Light and its last keeper retired at the end of last year. Where it's living work, however, preserving it is not merely a matter of tradition.

Like I said, same here. I was seven when the Portland Head Light, which I visited far more often than the Boston Light, was decommissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard. But since the case of the stations in B.C. involves people being shafted out of their livelihoods in real time when I can understand it, and since it would do them no good if I wrote to the Canadian Coast Guard to complain, I am posting here in hopes of reaching people whose complaints might have some force.
