Swing and turn, Jubilee
I spent most of this Juneteenth on grocery shopping and watering various flowering portions of my parents' yard that had been left high and wilting after the promised thunderstorms failed to materialize out of the extreme heat and skin-sticking humidity, but the impatiens which looked to have mummified overnight revived brilliantly when brought inside and left to recover under the tap in the kitchen sink and in similar fashion I was able to cook peppers and onions with bacon for dinner without melting myself. They made a nice combination effect.

Courtesy of my mother, I now have this superlatively sleazy-looking three-fer of Day Keene's Mrs. Homicide (1953), Naked Fury (1952), and Murder on the Side (1956). I can only hope all of them live down to their titles. I slightly misunderstood the lede of this article about the reopening of the beach at Herculaneum and wondered what they were doing about all the distance silted up from the sea in two thousand years. What I have been singing around the house and the car lately is this song.

Ugh, and this afternoon's have been postponed, as well.

I foresee more watering in my future!
(My mother's knee is recovering beautifully, but a lot of the movements involved in gardening are still just painful, so my father has been making plants happen and I have been making sure they don't die.)

Those are beautifully vivid flowers!
And lol at the pulpy novels, I do hope they deliver.
That is fascinating about the beach, too.

They made a remarkable recovery! They were brought inside looking like crepe paper left out all year on the classroom window.

Mrs. Homicide is a banger from page one and I can't believe it wasn't snapped up for some trashtacular '50's B-noir I'd have already been trying to see. I'm delighted.

I really loved the idea once I got to what it actually was.

The novel is worthy of it!
