But what if I'm a mermaid in these jeans of his?

As soon as it opens, I am going to see this.

The article in the museum newsletter states that "the exhibition highlights such supposed denizens of land, sea, and air as dragons, griffins, mermaids, sea serpents, and unicorns, with models that have to be seen to be believed. Among them will be a 17-foot-long dragon; the mythical bird of prey, the roc, with a 19-foot wing span; and a kraken, the multi-armed, ship-foundering sea monster, its massive two-foot-diameter tentacles surfacing all throughout the hall."

Reading this, my father asks me, "How would you feel if you found out you were descended from a kraken?"

"Biologically implausible, but awesome."

"Just checking," my father says equably, and goes back to reading the article.

Yeah.

Have I mentioned I wish I lived near you?

ooh boy, I'm gonna have to go see this myself. I don't visit NYC that often, so this is a grand reason. ^_^

Whoever wrote the article also wins points with me for the adjective "ship-foundering," which is an excellent heroic epithet.

yes indeed. if there ever was a place for a good heroic epithet, it's when talking about kraken. mmmm. ^_^ now I'm seeing visions of wine dark seas and dawn with her rosy fingers. *nostalgic*

I love that song so much. Also, hurray for Kate Bush listening!

The only one I have is Hounds of Love, but I've heard a few others from older albums that I really liked, too. Have you heard "Jig of Life"? Definitely my favourite song of hers. I could e-mail it to you if you'd like.

Oh, that looks so amazing...

And your dad just rocks.

He has more than once lamented that he had neither the genetic makeup nor the retroviral proficiency to give me retractile claws. He really does.

How utterly cool. Well, the same goes for the kraken bit. ;-)

My da thinks me very strange for wanting retractile claws. Although my mother, at least, understands.

I wonder if there will be an attempt to turn it into a travelling exhibit. I'd love to see it.

Oh, I completely overlooked that bit! Sheesh, I fail at reading comprehension.

I'd love to come out there, but I don't travel well, which is why I will never be a fixture on the con circuit.

Lovely story.

That exhibit looks interesting. I think I'll have to remind myself that it's not that far from here.

You have saved me!

I'm spending nine days with Augustine's family (both parents, both younger brothers (21 and 17)) on vacation in July, and two days will be in NYC. I was wondering what on earth we could do in NYC that would be interesting to most of us -- and this is perfect!

Maybe I can get myself locked in the museum, even...

Most definitely!

And I'm hoping to go to the Brooklyn Museum sans famille to see Judy Chicago's Dinner Party. I might die of joy then.

Oh, for awesome.

Are you going down for Sunshine's bat mitzvah? If so, wanna see it with us, assuming we can fit it in that week, must talk to the rest of the family?
