On my way home in the icy mixed rain that passes for our latter-day nor'easter, I found a twig of flowering tree on a streetlit lawn. There was no evidence of the rest of the tree. I brought it home for spatch.
The photo doesn't show it well, but they are greenish inside of their pink and white. I told selkie that we put them in a water glass in the hutch and will report on the status of mysterious moss and vines tomorrow.
It looks sort of like a hellebore flower--but they're ground growing, not tree growing. I can't imagine what tree flower would be in bloom right now that looks like that!

I thought of a hellebore, too, when I saw it in the grass, but it's on a cut twig! The other thing it looks like is dogwood, but too early and the center's all wrong.

Please imagine I still have a hat on to tip it.

I don't bring people flowers nearly often enough. (I'm not usually near a florist's. As just demonstrated, this should not be an impediment.)

It's snowing this morning. Maybe it just wanted to come inside.

A floral arrangement is actually my best guess, since it was cut rather than growing when I found it.
