I'll move on if I sit tight
Tonight in a move of true insult to injury, our dishwasher which we never use tried to flood the kitchen. Many towels were sacrificed. Many floorboards were mopped. We shut off the water under the sink, pulled the plug for good measure, and bailed out the inside of the dishwasher, but suspect we will need to call for a plumber no matter what. For consolation, we watched the first four episodes of Apple TV+'s Foundation (2021–). I wish Patricia McKillip were alive so I could tell her how formatively she imprinted me for millennially long games.

Yes! Kitchen appendicitis. Although apparently the appendix has been rehabilitated in recent decades.
I didn't realize Patricia McKillip had a story that stretched millennia!
The Riddle-Master trilogy: The Riddle-Master of Hed (1976), Heir of Sea and Fire (1977), and Harpist in the Wind (1979). I believe I was in middle rather than elementary school when I read the books for the first time. I have lost track of how many times I have read them since. Their imprint on me is probably visible from the next galaxy over, but they also fitted into shapes of things that I had in my head already. I did have the chance to tell her; we met at ICFA in 2008 when I was part of a poetry reading with her husband, David Lunde. But I am still furious that she's dead.
