It's far more terrifying to tell the stars you tried

Yesterday was consumed by a doctor's appointment of my mother's and today I had three doctor's appointments and I was already out of focus this week. I would appreciate music or links of interest, I think. At least I had donuts. The fundraiser covered all of Autolycus' medical bills, for which I thank everyone.

I feel you! I hope that all the appointments went well!

As for interesting things, I've recently liked this article about monk parakeets and their dialects. And I don't know if this counts, but I've left more prompts at the [community profile] threesentenceficathon!

Here's a playlist I made of folky/punky/metal-y stuff.
(I vetted the Norse groups.)

Ah, I'm glad!

I'm very glad about the fundraiser.

Have a Duke Ellington concert from 1968. The recording starts at about 3:35.

Prayers for your mother's health and your own. The song I'm going to recommend is a pop song, but as someone of the age of the mothers in it--and who has often felt like the mothers in it!--I enjoyed it. Nice intergenerational solidarity, and the ending is a gentle poke. Very cishet, but there we are. "All My Exes' Moms"

This is probably old hat to you, but I listened to The Cure's Disintegration for the first time this week. I've been repeat looping Pictures of You like mad -- love that song, and the lyrics.

That all sounds entirely unfair! I hope at least that some of them were useful and that it was the week's full quota of medical appointments. <3<3<3

I don't seem to have many links at the moment, but here's my tumblr "inspiration" tag which usually has some nice and hopefully a bit distracting things in.

I've not been around since this, but now I'm a bit here again, in belated links:

a tumblr post of alternate time measurement: https://www.tumblr.com/jurijurijurious/740552318616993792/the-haiku-bot-deliriumcrow-naamahdarling?source=share

a Saturday Night Theatre Martin Jarvis installment you might appreciate if you want 1hr 30mins audio distraction at any time: https://archive.org/details/nicolas-freeling-king-of-the-rainy-country

(Also at Radio Echoes and OTTR and in the big SNT collection at IA.)

I hope the rest of the week has been less medically inclined. ♥

(I have not got around to posting about around half of these I've listened to. I'm not sure which is my favourite, but this one stands out to me so far as RTYI. It stars Martin Jarvis, it's v interesting & not at all typical, it's extremely well-adapted & by Philip Martin (who wrote Varos; or at least, I assume at this date) & presumably in the first place by Nicholas Freeling and there was really quite excessive whumpage.)

ETA: (You don't know how grudgy I was about being FORCED to consume Van der Valk and LIKE it and all that, but I assume you don't have entirely illogical childhood prejudices against 1970s detective shows set in Holland.)

That's delightful. I'm surprised no one has yet commented on Gay Noon.

I can see in the comments in the notes that, inevitably, tumblr has indeed spotted Gay Time and appreciates that it is followed by Violence, allowing fully for "Be Gay, Do Crimes" to be acted on every day. XD

I have no prejudices toward Van der Valk as far as I know; the only novel I've read is Gun Before Butter (1963). How did you end up watching so much of the TV series in childhood?

I didn't: I merely developed a determination never ever to watch any for no reason whatsoever. Or read any. I nearly didn't listen to this one, but I thought I might as well try it, and then grudgingly had to admit it was pretty well done actually. But very grudgingly. (There is no logic involved, I assure you! I just... decided that it was obv Not For Me on the basis of zero information and research.)

ETA: Sorry about the lack of sleep! I hope Calm and Peace comes through for you and you don't have to see the Violent and Active part of the night/morning. <3

Did Martin Jarvis do any more of them for radio?

I'd have to double check with Genome, but I don't think so. Just the one-off for SNT. He also did Trent's Last Case, though, and obv Craddock and Co, so he has detected elsewhere on occasion.

ETA: Oh, and this one, which actually, I really liked: Other Paths to Glory
