When the rain, I see
For the second night of Hanukkah, I finally met in person my godchild's twelve-year-old Eastern box turtle, Mr. Slow.

(I thought both its looks and the slowness seemed more like a tortoise than a turtle, but looking it up I see that box turtles are tortoise-like and terrestrial in their habits. Huh, that is interesting!)

I complimented his colors. He did not have them when he came to my godchild; he bloomed.

Yes! He does swim, but as I understand it, mostly for cleanliness. He would be burrowing to brumate if in the wild. (Upstairs in my godchild's bedroom, he sort of hunkers.)
