And who are you that calls us back when we have gone?
The tenor of this summer can be gauged by the fact that I meant to remark on the anniversary of As the Tide Came Flowing In (2022), which occurred at the end of August on a day on which I was in no shape to do much of anything.
As an especially pleasant surprise, therefore, this afternoon's mail dropped my contributor's copy of Adventures in Bodily Autonomy: Exploring Reproductive Rights in Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror, edited by Raven Belasco and forthcoming from Aqueduct Press in October. Its explorers include Nisi Shawl, Kathleen Alcalá, K Ibura, Cecilia Tan, Cynthia Gralla, Anya Johanna DeNiro, Jaymee Goh, and more; my novelette "As the Tide Came Flowing In" is reprinted among them. All proceeds go to NARAL Pro-Choice America and it can be preordered now. Also, the cover by Jenifer Prince is pretty great.

It works in context of the chorus!
But who are you that sings in this early silver dawn?
And who are you that talks to the flowers in the fog?
And who are you that walks through the meadows after dark?
And who are you that calls us back when we have gone?
