I write it down, it happens next

Most of the holidays with which I grew up meaningfully have to do with memory, so what I actually did for Juneteenth was leave a stone at the Royall House and Slave Quarters, this ghost-ground of New England I didn't know existed until just a few years ago, complicating and true.

I really appreciate the meaningfulness of stones for memory and remembrance (complicating and true, indeed). It makes me think of García Lorca's words (the stone is a shoulder on which to carry time...) and I really appreciate that too. Thank you for sharing this! <3

Have you ever come across maypole dancing as a celebration of Juneteenth?

There are a couple (at least) of communities that do this, and I really must get around to writing about the custom.
