You know I got something better than a swimming pool
Rabbit, rabbit! Happy May Day! I slept an hour and went to another doctor's appointment!
I recognize it says nothing for my botanical competence that I didn't realize we had a lilac in our back yard until it started to bud, but since I had been desperately missing the lilac that used to grow in a second-story tree past the back deck of our previous apartment, I am extremely glad to see this one.

We have a volunteer one that actually grew from a seed dropped by the neighbors' ancient bush, and although it did not bloom last year during the drought, I have very high hops that with the very wet winter it will get things together this spring. Right now, properly for its latitude and the reluctant spring (apparently that is almost a technical term, who knew), it is carefully contemplating the possibility of some leaves.

I looked through the kitchen window one morning and there it was!

Oh, that's cool. An explorer. I hope it makes it.
(Our spring just dumped two days' worth of rain on us, which I am hoping is of some use to the depleted water table, because all it did for me was make me break out the umbrella.)
