Lower him down with a golden chain
I have had a worsening headache all day to the point where I actually wound up lying with my hat over my eyes in a lighted room, but I deeply appreciate being informed by
ashlyme of the existence of Plinth's Music for Smalls Lighthouse (2013) and by
spatch of Gavin Bryars' The Sinking of the Titanic (1990), the liner notes for the latter incidentally being how I learned that Marconi believed in residual haunting. If my head is going to feel like crush depth, I can at least have a suitable soundtrack.

I once heard it sung hauntingly as part of a one-man show about the Titanic at the Boston Museum of Science!

Somehow when I saw the title, I thought "Snails" rather than "Smalls," and I have to say I really like the idea of a snails' lighthouse.

We'll dig his grave with a silver spade
(Walk him along, John, carry him along)
His shroud of finest silk will be made
(Carry him to his burying ground)
We'll lower him down on a golden chain
(Walk him along, John, carry him along)
On every link we'll carve his name
(Carry him to his burying ground)
Obviously I am also sorry about your head, but folk song variants are very important and, well, haven't you had the head for a minute and you were going to try some other thing, like being one of those people from medieval sea charts with your brain and your facial features on your midback so the pressure doesn't give you a headache because you don't have a head?

It does! I gather the accompanying book has sold out, but it sounds like it was a beautiful artifact.
Somehow when I saw the title, I thought "Snails" rather than "Smalls," and I have to say I really like the idea of a snails' lighthouse.
That's because it's such a good idea.

Yes! Oh, my God. Now I want to hear it, too.

And then our basement sort of flooded, which seems unnecessarily on point.
