I dreamt I woke unburdened and I walked and I ran

I can't call what we are having a snow day, since it is cloudlessly bright and currently about 14 °F and with wind chill feels twenty degrees colder, but I am entertained that with the unerring instinct of The Twilight Zone I dreamed that instead of the promised arctic front we had been hit with a wave of global heat and everyone was melting like Dali paintings in February light. It was a mildly Ballardian experience; I seemed to be living in a high-rise festooned with abandoned mattresses and trash bags. I was incredibly reassured to wake and discover we really were in danger of our eyelashes snapping off. It still feels like cheating that we aren't having even a small blizzard.

P.S. I can take or leave the noonday sun, but even in sandblasting cold, not apparently a winter dusk.

Sounds like your subconscious was keeping itself warm, at least.

Too bad we won't get snow. We're getting into dendrite flake temperatures.

I am glad you're getting seasonably appropriate weather and not Dali-esque heat, at least!

We've had bitter, bitter weather with bare ground and no snow, and it does feel so unnatural. Only ours has mostly been either in late fall or in the spring. I think the worst was actually in late April, during the long drought of the late 1980's.

I wish I could pack up three or four of our one- to two-inch snowfalls, occurring a few days apart, into one lovely picturesque day and just send them to you.

It's dryer here now, but the snowpack is quite substantial; every trip out of or back into the house involves climbing over snowdrifts. I'm glad of my ice cleats. I'd be so happy to share! But weather is not amenable to such desires.
