Will you bloom bright and fierce?

Rabbit, rabbit! Happy May Day! I had cherished seasonal hopes of writing about a socialist film, but since I am instead doing my best not to come down with pneumonia, I did the convalescent thing and gardened for my mother.

Planting pansies.

The weeping cherry on the boundary of my parents' neighbors' yard.

I guess if you ever wanted to know what it would look like if that statue of Lilith that clings to the walls of modern art museums had to weed out a raised bed.

The garden bed, now occupied by chives at one end and onions at the other. Theoretically the brick of stiff twigs at the chive end will revive in the next few weeks as oregano. The plan is to plant some things that aren't allium in between.

The beginning of the lilacs.

The ornamental cherry getting into the swing.

Pansies, planted!

Much later in the evening, we went out for milkshakes from the local ice cream shop; were unable to purchase milkshakes from the local ice cream shop; purchased malt powder from the local ice cream shop; came home and made milkshakes. I was probably complaining about the silliness of this situation, but I like the picture.

I expect to be immobile for some time.

The shirt is good on you. Also, people aren’t supposed to be able to crouch like that in middle age; but I guess you are allowed to return to your feline form in your mother’s garden of all places.

I hear you on the "Oh please, body, don't come down with pneumonia!" part. Good luck!

The picture of the lilac tree made me remember that lilacs are among my favorite flowers, along with peonies.

I hope the satellite dish is receiving good vibes for anything that gets planted in the box. Your lilacs and ornamental cherry are so close to fully open! Very pretty. And I like that you have your toes in the earth; that's good.

That statue of Lilith that you link to is very cool. Is there some story for that pose? Did she do some creeping like that in some text?

I don't know about Lilith, but you definitely look like some kind of wild, fae spirit in that pose with your bare feet, your hair blowing and your earthy-toned clothing. No wonder the garden bloomed so colourfully in response to your presence!

I hope all this wonder was a good prophylactic against pneumonia. It really should be.

We're thinking of putting in a cherry tree at the border with our neighbors' yard! (Although not the weeping kind. Also under consideration: several other varieties fruit trees. It just seems like a nice idea for the boundary to be not a wall, but a place where you come together to gather sweet food.)
