For the Ides of March, I discovered that my poetry
continues to go
viral in certain quarters of
Tumblr; I continue to be honored by this phenomenon and not to expect it at all. Also I have been
compared to Rosanna Warren. On the strength of "
Mud," I see how that happened.

Your estimation of the phrase made me think of Leo Marks in Between Silk and Cyanide (1998), introducing the reader to what he calls "the ultimate SOE benediction": "Merde alors!"

And yeah, it's the Tumblr poetry reader's equivalent of (or so I gather from Ursula Vernon's podcasts) the visual artist's professional accolade "I hate you. I want to kill you." (said in a tone of earnest admiration, and received with an unsarcastic "Oh, thank you, that's so sweet of you!")

I recommend it highly. I wrote about it a little in context of the film noir Cloudburst (1951), also written by Marks.

I did notice from assorted tags that reaching my audience is rhetorically indistinguishable from wrecking them.
