Far out to sea there's a strange kind of silence
My birthday present from
nineweaving arrived this afternoon: Johnny Flynn and Robert Macfarlane's Lost in the Cedar Wood (2021), a pandemic collaboration inspired by the Epic of Gilgamesh. I am pleased to report that so far it is exactly as great as one would hope from that description. I had been wondering what both of them were doing lately.
In other news, I have been absolutely stomped by this booster shot. I am now running only a moderate fever and my skin mostly doesn't hurt at the lightest touch, but the alteration of teeth-rattling chills and drenching sweats for the first twenty-four hours was some real pseudo-malarial funtimes. I am reassuring myself that it indicates a healthy immune response. My immune system almost never does anything healthy, so I should support its broadening horizons. At some point in the future I assume I will stop randomly falling asleep while sitting down to read.

This is like when the doctors advise the patient to retire to their summer home and to be sure their cook prepares them porridge cooked precisely to X specifications, which they should eat while listening to baroque chamber music played live on period instruments.
But yeah, sure! Destress!

To be fair to the doctor, she is desperately stressed herself and understands that I cannot just move out to the villa at Baiae for the season. We had an actual planning conversation, not just a vague prescription. But her point that I am on a real physiological level out of the resources with which to heal from things that have happened to my body remains unpleasantly valid. Now I need a shipping fortune and a sanitorium.

She's a good doctor, and they are burning out fast.
Ahh, that shipping fortune. I guess right now it's tied up at the Port of Los Angeles....
