Pools in the river and the river calls him

I am honored and excited to announce the launch of The Deadlands, a new monthly speculative magazine on the subject of death and all the liminal places it borders our living world.

My stake in this venture—beyond the extremely obvious—is that alongside the more than mortal skills of Sean Markey, Elise Tobler, David Gilmore, Brandon O'Brien, and Cory Skerry, I am editing the poetry. It delights me to be able to say so. Poets already involved include M.J. Cunniff, Shweta Narayan, s.j. bagley, Romie Stott, Greer Gilman, Marissa Lingen, Mike Allen, R.B. Lemberg, Jeannelle M. Ferreira, Gwynne Garfinkle, Zin E. Rocklyn, Gemma Files, Erik Amundsen, Mat Joiner, Leah Bobet, C.S.E. Cooney, Carlos Hernandez, and Bogi Takács. These are people who know from ghosts, grief, bones, and boundary-crossing.

The Kickstarter has all the details of tiers, funding, and when we open to submissions. Our first issue comes out in May. We are beginning with solicited work, but we want as many voices in this magazine as there are routes to the other side and the edges of this one. Pay the ferryman. Travel with us. It's a broad road and there is always room for one more.

Wow, how exciting! I saw an announcement on Twitter, but in the way of Twitter, did not understand fully what I was looking at. I will get me to the Kickstarter!

You've got a marvelous array of heavy hitters in both fiction and poetry--and as editors. It's a great project.

Sweet.

(Dang, I don't have anything that'd fit that hasn't already been published. Will you be open to reprints?)

Oooh, this looks really wonderful! I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for submission guidelines (and very likely backing the Kickstarter as well!).

It will be a pleasure to flog this until it's funded, indeed.

Geistgeist?
(I just put Duolingo Yiddish on my phone and according to it I am intermediate, but I leave out articles like anything. I will not be submitting work in Yiddish to this magazine of yours, clearly.)

I saw an announcement on Twitter without any names attached and thought "Oh gosh, I need to tell Sonya about this, it sounds right up her alley!"

I guess I have a good sense of what sort of thing you like. :D Congratulations!

I think if I had said, "Hey, Rose, I've sold a poem called 'Oppenheimer in Valhalla,'" you would probably also have said, "Must tell Sonya."

We are being very ourselves here, is what I'm saying.
