I concluded my first-ever virtual Arisia with "Leadership in Science Fiction and Fantasy," which permitted me the opportunity to talk about the musical 1776 and Yoon Ha Lee's Machineries of Empire in context of one another, which I quite enjoyed. Then I had a complicated rest of the day, but the convention itself worked, which as a person with the Zoom tolerance of cheesecloth I had not been totally confident it would, and I regret nothing about my participation except the dearth of hanging out and the fact that all my panels could have run their regular hour and a half, easy. I didn't even telecommunicate my con crud to anyone. Next year in company.

It was a real pleasure be present for a truly animated discussion full of lots of good thoughts. When I tweeted about the mention of The Privilege of the Sword Ellen Kushner remarked (among other things), "Aw dammit, I forgot about Arisia," and I had the pleasure of saying, "My first time ever to go." ... I find it hard to work myself up to traveling at this time of year, so for me the virtual was a great option.
