With a red wire and a blue wire
Today! A nice mask story! My mother brought my niece by so that she could show off her new shark dress, but she was shy about her mask and kept ducking down behind the seats of the car, after a few minutes of which a boy about her own age was coming down the sidewalk with his mother behind him, both of them wearing masks. As they passed the car, the mother pointed to my niece and said to the boy, "Look! She's a little girl and she's wearing her mask!" and then to my mother, "How old?" to which my niece answered, "Six," and the other mother said, "My son's seven," and then to my mother, "It's so hard to get them to understand that you have to wear the mask, that you have to stay six feet away," and then my mother and the other mother each made encouraging noises at their respective small children with the result that I think both my niece and the seven-year-old were mortally embarrassed (he kept saying, mournfully, "Get out of my face!") and would probably have bonded for life if actually allowed within six feet of one another, but it was really sweet. We all commiserated about how necessary and difficult the social distancing is before the mother and her son went on their way and my niece finally consented to slip out of the car and show me how the dress twirls when she spins. And that made me feel a lot better about masks and the people in my neighborhood.

It was a much-needed pure moment of "Look! Most people don't suck!"

And I'm very glad that you had a chance to meet a family who's taking things seriously. I'm glad your niece was able to be an example of another mask-wearing kid.

And I LOVE the shark dress. What a great twirly sea-skirt.

I believe I got the recommendation for Princess Awesome/Boy Wonder from

Thank you! I think it was useful to her, too.

It was such a nice random thing to have happen!
This whole thing must be so weird and confusing for kids.
I know it's hard on my niece. She misses her school friends and I haven't hugged her since March.

I plan to wave at them happily if I see them again!

She loves sharks. It looks great on her.

Early on, one of the things that helped me relate better to universal face-masks was seeing a photograph, from I think Hong Kong, of a father in his face-mask, holding his little girl in her face-mask, and the little girl's stuffed animal, with its face-mask.

Yeah—I don't even wear dresses, but I can recognize an outstanding member of the species when I see it. I like their dinosaur stuff, too.

(Yay. I wanted to share.)

Oh, that is both poignant and sweet. I hope all of them, stuffed animal included, are all right.

You're welcome!
Also, it sounds like your niece has fantastic taste in animals.
I am obviously biased, but I also think so.

And the dress is amazing! I want it for me.

I am sorry it doesn't come in adult sizes! Some of their clothes do.
