With a red wire and a blue wire

Today! A nice mask story! My mother brought my niece by so that she could show off her new shark dress, but she was shy about her mask and kept ducking down behind the seats of the car, after a few minutes of which a boy about her own age was coming down the sidewalk with his mother behind him, both of them wearing masks. As they passed the car, the mother pointed to my niece and said to the boy, "Look! She's a little girl and she's wearing her mask!" and then to my mother, "How old?" to which my niece answered, "Six," and the other mother said, "My son's seven," and then to my mother, "It's so hard to get them to understand that you have to wear the mask, that you have to stay six feet away," and then my mother and the other mother each made encouraging noises at their respective small children with the result that I think both my niece and the seven-year-old were mortally embarrassed (he kept saying, mournfully, "Get out of my face!") and would probably have bonded for life if actually allowed within six feet of one another, but it was really sweet. We all commiserated about how necessary and difficult the social distancing is before the mother and her son went on their way and my niece finally consented to slip out of the car and show me how the dress twirls when she spins. And that made me feel a lot better about masks and the people in my neighborhood.
