I'm sure that many terrible films were made in the 1930's and 40's that simply haven't survived to the present day—but I look at the ones that did survive and there's such a concentration of talent in some of them, it makes me wistful. Not because anyone was assembling an all-star cast, but just because that's who was working at the time. Sigh.
