For when one of us goes on the job, the other hits the hay

I hate wearing masks. I have done it before for medical and other protective reasons, but it sets off some of the same sensory issues as certain textures or kinds of touch and a substrate of my brain just screams chokingly at me the entire time that we can't deal with these sensations and my face needs to be clear now now now now now. I have never even covered my mouth with scarves in winter. At the end of these three or six or nine months, I am either going to be amazingly desensitized or no one is ever going to be able to touch my face again. So I hope the entire goddamn Commonwealth appreciates my sacrifice and also check out these cherry blossoms.

I saw a red-tailed hawk, too, but could not successfully photograph it on either of its perches on the cross-tree of the telephone pole or the corner of the Litchfield Block.

I have a new go-to quote every time I hear that the man in the White House has said anything at all, courtesy of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's "The Paperhanger," written for the American Theatre Wing's Lunchtime Follies c. 1942–45: "Isn't it wonderful how they always believe me? It's not as though I kept it a secret—I come right out and tell them what I'm going to do. They just can't believe that anyone can be as big a bastard as I am. You know, you can't tell how far a fellow could go, with a nature like mine."

The picture is beautiful, and the quotation apt. Together, they are sweet and tart.

When I hear the occupant of the White House, I myself tend to think of a quotation from the late president of Fredonia: "Who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes?"

That is an unfortunately apt quote.

Kaufman and Hart knew their bastards.

The blossom is gorgeous!

Tomorrow was supposed to be the Cherry Blossom Festival 10 mile race in DC. Nope.

I run and walk outside unmasked and do my darnedest to stay twelve feet away from other folks, usually across the street. I appreciate your sacrifice. I was furious this afternoon when we walked near the Lexington soccer fields and counted almost thirty people spread across two of the fields (we stayed on the Temple side of the street). I am making a mask tonight to wear to get curbside bagel pickup tomorrow.

Iago was like that. It kind of makes the audience into accomplices.

I have trouble wearing anything on my face as well. My brain is persuaded that I can't breathe even though I show it that I can. Brains. What are you gonna do? Can't live with them, can't have them removed.

I have a very hard time with masks too. They make me feel like I'm suffocating. I hope I can get used to them, but mostly I'm staying home as much as possible.

Yeah, I CANNOT DEAL with having anything on my face, or around my neck -- and anything that feels like it is impeding my breathing makes me really panicky. (The reason I can't do CPAP is it sets off panic attacks and also, when I tried it, I woke up having struggled out of the mask and straps in my sleep and it was on the floor.) I don't go outside that much anyway. I'm hoping double folded and tucked-in bandanas will not make me panicky if I do. :-/

I've been frequently recalling the scene where the smiler tells Spider who he really is in Transmetropolitan: "I hate you all, you know, all you scum. I want to be president because I hate you. I want to fuck with you."

Thank you for the tree.

And, yes me too on masks. Gnar. (I mean. I'll cope. But gnar.)

I find birds impossible to photograph satisfactorily! But I know many other people do manage it.

The blossoms are beautiful, and from a distance, when I first open Dreamwidth, they look like pink lilacs (though I know they're not).

♥ You're being heroic and we appreciate it, anyway.

The blossom pic is gorgeous!

I deeply feel you on the masks. Probably not as bad as a reaction as you but I definitely have an immediate "get it off get it off" and a creeping headache both of which just get worse over time. *sigh*
