Max von Sydow has died. He was ninety years old, but I always thought that chess game might go on just a little longer. I saw him first, as spare as an icon in wood, in The Seventh Seal (1957).

I love it. It was the first film I was ever asked to study and it just so happened that I loved it. For a long time it was the closest thing I would say I had to a favorite movie even though I don't have singular favorites of anything. It's held up to rewatch every time I've tried.
