There were over thirty people in my parents' house this evening, along with an uncounted quantity of latkes and one accordion. Every time I sat down, the doorbell rang. My sister-in-law arrived with extra potatoes halfway through. My mother lit the first night's candle for the children, all of them. My hair still smells like frying. I think our Hanukkah party was a success.

I recently bought a shredding things attachment for my KitchenAid, mostly so I can fry potatoes more satisfactorily.

Not latkes...I have a thing I do with shredded potatoes and vegetables and some bacon or sausage so it's pretty much the opposite but very tasty for brunch.

We lost the accordionist before the candlelighting, because in his other job he's a cardiologist and he was on call this weekend, but I got to hear him play "Dona, Dona," "Khanike Oy Khanike," and "Sevivon" first.

My brother is an accordionist! He plays every year at his East Coast xmas party, along with a pickup band of his friends.

They originally called themselves "The Donairs" (the Canadian Maritimes have their own assimilated version of donairs, which are not quite like any others); then they became, in successive years, the New Donairs, Donair Supply, Jefferson Donairplane, and I think a couple of other names.
