Heading to the city to get my body back

We appear to have achieved impeachment proceedings. I'm really impressed. May we all get a fair share of justice with our popcorn.

In the meantime, please enjoy R. Lemberg's Impeach Peach.

Greetings:

You may recall, tho’, that President Ford’s decision to pardon R Nixon infuriated both Left and Right.  The collectivists felt cheated; they exulted in their victory and wanted to see the Great Satan made to pay for…  well, winning re-election, to start with, but the list was long.  Their popcorn was to hand, and now the show trial was cancelled.

The conservatives, on the other hand, were purple because you can’t receive a pardon for a crime you didn’t commit - so a pardon is tacit admission of guilt, found without trial!

[They were none too happy about his pardon of draft dodgers also.  Dura lex, sed lex:  He was in effect overturning the law, “legislating from the bench.”]

Arguably it was these acts of diplomacy that lost him the 1976 election.  How he would have reacted to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan or the Iranian hostage crisis is a matter of speculation.
