Scratch on the moon like a familiar smile stained on my mind

[personal profile] rushthatspeaks tried a perfume on my wrist tonight that made me smell like a really swanky fish tank. It's BPAL's Y'ha-nthlei, so I see how this happened, but I was expecting more brine, less air filter. There was a great moment right after it hit my wrist when all the top notes blew off and all I could smell was kelp, but it didn't last. I think the moral of this story is that I just want a perfume that smells like low tide.

I spent today with Rush-That-Speaks, Fox, Rafe, and Lucien. Outside of getting hit in the eye with a painted wooden egg hurled at speed and close range by a two-and-a-half-year-old testing the concept of limits and also processing some emotions, it was really nice. (I put ice on my eye. It doesn't seem to have bruised. I can see out of it. I would be cool with not getting hit in the eye by anything for a week or so, though.) We ordered dry fried beef from Zoe's with garlic spinach and scallion pancakes for dinner and Rush-That-Speaks showed me Oscar #Worldpeace's "No White God."

I don't know if I will see Lucien again. I petted him especially before I left; I took pictures of him with Rush and [personal profile] gaudior when they got home. [personal profile] spatch called to tell him he was a good cat and I held the phone to his ear and stroked the sharp ridge of his back under the still-black fur. It is important to have good cats in your life. I am lucky enough to have one beside me on the couch right now, grooming his back foot. Tell your cats you love them.

That was a good day, despite the underlying sadness. I am happy that you all could be together.

Lucien is one of the great cats.

I'm very sorry to hear about Lucien's illness. It sounds like he has been a strong centre in the lives of everyone who has known him for a long time.

I like the sound of the perfume's scent, but as something to wear? Um......

Think I'll stick to Coco! :o)

I am so sorry about Lucien. (I still miss Bast of dubiously blessed memory and ill-concealed misandry.) Also wtf your eye. Do we need to get you some kind of amuletic protective eyepatch.

I'm so sorry to hear about Lucien.

I'm also glad the egg didn't do any damage.

At this point you might consider protective goggles!

I am sorry to hear about Lucien.

I'm also forever on the search for a perfume that actually smells like the sea! I haven't tried "Y'ha-nthlei", but BPAL's "Days of Winter Sunshine" gets somewhat close. It's still more evocative than literal, but it's closer than the average scent that's advertised as ocean-like and then turns out to be coconut and mango. (Which are fine scents! But the ocean does not actually smell of tropical fruit.) Unfortunately "Days of Winter Sunshine" was a temporary blend for the Yule season.

I think the problem is that the scent of low tide is at least partly composed of dead fish and rotting seaweed, which probably turns off most perfume buyers, but it's so nostalgic and rich and singular to me that it's exactly what I want to wear.
