Mind and care where you stand—mind and care where you lay your head

Despite the usual lack of sleep occasioned by early-morning doctors' appointments, I had a nice time meeting [personal profile] a_reasonable_man at Widener Library and then it turned out the item for which I had requested reading room privileges was actually a mirage in the catalogue and the afternoon promptly deteriorated: it took me two hours to get home thanks to the MBTA being both snafu and fubar; my stamina comprehensively fucked off long before then; and I got back to the internet to discover the liar in the White House has declared a national emergency for purposes of immigrant crackdown, which is the kind of thing I have been worried about since he took office. Protests appear to be planned for noon on Monday. [personal profile] spatch and I are supposed to attend our traditional twenty-four-hour science fiction film marathon ending at noon on Monday. I guess sleep-deprived protest it's going to be. This can't be the worst timeline, but could it stop doing its best to compete?

Ug. I'm sorry about lack of sleep and unnecessary amounts of time on the T. And I guess I'll be joining you on Monday. Any idea where?

I'll duck out of work at my lunch and stay as long as I can. Hope to see you both.

I'm sorry your trip back home was so challenging!

I'm pretty sure the declaration of emergency won't stand. It'll be stopped by the courts or possibly by Congress, despite Mitch McConnell, because many Republicans seem to fear the precedent. They've been arguing that some future Democratic President could use this power to circumvent Congress and call an emergency over global warming, or guns. To which I say, thanks for the suggestions!

Indeed. Good luck with the protest!

protest

It looks like we'll have a little snow for the protest, which should be invigorating.

Have fun at the 'thon!

The only thing I caught at the SciFi film fest was the Le Guin documentary, which was popular enough to be shown on the Somerville's main stage, with people seated in the Balcony, despite it being a Thursday night, and Valentine's day. A well made doc, and worth catching. The screening I caught was certainly an example of how watching together as a community staring at the light in the dark elevates a film. At point the theatre erupted in laughter at a brief facial expression Le Guin made before answering a question.
