It's almost Christmastime
We have guests impending any second, but I wish to express a quick pre-eggnog appreciation for yesterday's light snowfall and this morning's bright wintershine and for finding myself on A.C. Wise's Favorite Long Fiction of 2018, which feels like a solid present to me. A ruby-throated hummingbird puppet seems to have alighted mysteriously on the mantel overnight, green-backed and red-chinned. 'Tis the season.
[edit] Guests arrived and now I have copies of Richard Rubin's Back Over There: One American Time-Traveler, 100 Years Since the Great War, 500 Miles of Battle-Scarred French Countryside, and Too Many Trenches, Shells, Legends and Ghosts to Count (2017) and Nechama Tec's Defiance: The Bielski Partians (1993). My friends know me.

It's a good one. You were missed! Tell me when I can give you some books.

I think of Rubin as a not uncommon name—I know a Rich Rubin who's no relation—but you could always ask!
