The shortest day and the longest night have been drowned in rain that doesn't even have the decency to be December-cold, but the sun comes back whether you see it or not: that's axial tilt for you. I have spent the evening with my parents, putting lights on a tree. Happy solstice.

What's the appropriate ritual response?

At Revels*, the crowd yells "Welcome Yule!" back. (After being exhorted to be loud beforehand.)

I dunno about other pagans, though.

I've never been to Cambridge Revels, but my hometown revels does the same thing!

Schenectady (put on by the UU congregation), but I wouldn't have expected you to guess that. (I actually live in Cambridge at present but have never been to their Revels.)

Hm, no, neither by interests nor public posts would I have guessed that, so I feel less silly about my stabbage.

(The Cambridge Revels are often worth it, but I imagine you don't need people evangelizing about it/them.)
