None can pull the passion loose from youth's ungrateful hands

[personal profile] spatch and I have been married five years today. We stood together under the chuppah embroidered by my great-grandmother in front of the load-bearing piano on the mezzanine of the Somerville Theatre and were consecrated to one another with rings and ritual and a line from 1776. We spent our first night as a married couple at a hotel and our second night at the ER and our third night quietly home. And the next year our lives fell apart and nothing has been easy since, but we have never missed our anniversary.

The world has changed in five years. We have changed. At the moment we are both still sick, because viruses take no note of important time. But we are here and there is pale clear sun in the sky and the streets and we are going to celebrate. We chose to marry in winter even though we met in spring because it is the season when the light comes back. We brought ourselves out of the underworld once. We can do it again.

Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah! Three cheers for the couple!

Let us know if you need to borrow our all-wheel drive for that last hitch out of the underworld; just toss the goalie stick out the back because our kid's always on the game roster. The cab's already loaded with glow sticks, handwarmer packets, and goldfish crackers and the seats do the weird thing where you can just take a nap. It's yours any time.

That was a metaphor, but it's also the truth.

This is not strictly topical, but you are/have been/should be celebrating.

DID YOU KNOW YOU COULD PUT RUM IN EGGNOG? HOLY GODDAMN. NICOLE IS MOCKING ME. THIS IS A THING. I stopped having a useless half a thingy of leftover rum and now have what looks to my naive eye like a seasonally appropriate ration of rum. BECAUSE IT GOES IN EGGNOG.

It is the best thing I have learned all week and that includes how you work a gearbox on a tank. AND IT WILL MORE EASILY IMPROVE YOUR LIFE.

What was it like? Murk? I'm cultivating murk in the pantry but it's making my appreciation for complex ferments in spirits grow by leaps and bounds.

(Now who's adorable. You did potable research. )

I think a seal of my size and specific spatial... bigness (this may be aphasia and it may be the knuckle and a half of rum) is absolutely not up to your family's eggnog, but I would drink it and then find a spot under a table and not bother anybody while I had the tipsy fibrillations.

Probably true, although I'm sure there are occasions when tank gearbox repair would suddenly become much, much more important!
(I suppose I should hope it never comes up, although it would be epic if you DID have to, and succeed in, repairing a tank on short notice.)
