The politics of love and the future don't mean nothing
I am extremely tired. I am not sure how the end of this week came up so fast. I was almost literally falling asleep on my feet walking from Kendall to Davis last night. Nonetheless, I got through my doctor's appointments and one of them even went significantly better than expected. Despite yesterday's hell of public transit failure,
spatch and I managed to meet for dinner at a pop-up crossover with Mei Mei being hosted by Mamaleh's, meaning that he had the kung pao pastrami, I had the lox on scallion pancakes, and we got a tsimmes-style brisket bao on the house. Tomorrow my family is taking me on a pre-birthday outing and Sunday I will maybe sleep.
I have been invited to participate in Providence's inaugural Noir at the Bar in November. I have obviously said yes. Chances are good that I will read poetry and nonfiction and talk about women and uncertainty in classic film noir. It should be fun.
The trouble with having the line "You have made the wrong choice, sir—as usual" running through my head is that I feel much more sympathetically toward Gilbert Norrell than toward the majority of our Senate, my thoughts about whom bend much more in the direction of dying with blood in their throats.

The less said about the Senate majority, the better.

Because I live under a rock, I hadn't even known that Noir at the Bar was a thing until I was invited. I'm really looking forward.

I had planned to take the afternoon quietly and I am having difficulty disconnecting from the amount of visceral anger I feel. I need to find the most useful thing to do with it, not just the thing that will make me feel better. I feel very far out from the levers of power. I was already planning to vote.

What can be done about McConnell?

McConnell got absolutely exactly what he wanted unfortunately.

"One of my proudest moments was when I looked Barack Obama in the eye and I said, 'Mr. President, you will not fill the Supreme Court vacancy.'"

I read the news and I have a memory. I want to know how to get him out of office starting now. I have limited resources and I want to put them where they can be used.

Thanks. It wasn't a rhetorical question. If I can't prevent the damage he's done, I want to know if there is anything in my power that will keep him from doing further gleeful damage in future. Just because I can't think of implementable solutions right now does not mean someone else hasn't come up with some.

I found this an interesting article about her declaration, though.

It is true that his proposal to revive the Cinque Dragownes for the sole purpose of hanging Christopher Drawlight was not (among stiff competition) his finest hour.
Though maybe he'd find a reason of his own to vote down Kavanaugh.
That testimony looked pretty disreputable to me.

In terms of making Mitch McConnell sad, I recommend donating to Joe Donnelly and Jon Tester, both of whom are No on Bart O'Kavanaugh and both of whose races are tighter than comfortable.
ETA: Also Mike Espy, who has a very credible chance at winning a Senate seat in Mississippi (!) in the December runoff and whom early money will help right now.

I always add the mental fine print of in a way that cannot possibly be spun into a conspiracy of assassination, but enough of them are of an age where I think nothing dramatic would have to happen, although I wouldn't say no to McConnell dissolving into a glistening pile of his own vitriol.

I hadn't even heard of him! Thanks.
