First of all, failing to take people seriously when they ask to be can be really cruel. Mocking or belittling things that mean a whole lot to someone? Not cool.

I think in this specific context (see reply to [personal profile] moon_custafer at the top of these comments) it is fair of the reviewer to point out that the people complaining that no one is taking them seriously are the same overwhelmingly white male demographic of fandom that complains about too many women and too many characters of color and Rian Johnson destroying the very meaning of Star Wars by presenting Luke as a flawed and sympathetic human being instead of an immortal badass; it's yet another zero-sum game where if they are not given preference in all things, they feel that they are being disregarded entirely. Considering that Film Crit Hulk themselves wrote a novelette's worth of nonfiction on The Last Jedi, I am pretty sure they believe it is worth taking seriously.

In general I think you're right and that's why I had the reaction I did.
