In our house, we had a celebration of Petrov for his birthday. :) And then a couple of days later heard of his death. He had died in May, but for some reason the news wasn't made public (or just wasn't noticed by newspapers?) until September.
Anyway, we had a cake with 'thank you' written on it in Russian and a bottle of not-exactly-champagne from Belorus to toast him with - to toast thinking twice before following potentially catastrophic protocols, and cool analysis in crises and humanitarianism. He (and also Vasili Arkipov) deserve to be remembered with honour for centuries.
