As an aside, I'd argue that the young couple in The Black Cat are neither stupid, nor intruders by choice. They both notice pretty quickly that the household they've been forced to stop at has more red flags than the Kremlin, but everything (well, mostly Poerzig and his servants) conspires to get in the way of them leaving.
