I'm so glad you recommended this, and that you've written about it. I loved it, personally, and the more I dig into this genre and its history, the better I understand the basic narrative themes and structure, the more I want to adapt them for a gender transition narrative, something neither folk horror, nor body horror...and more focused around the haunting persistence of monotheism and sex-based gender into apparently modernized paradigms.
