There are several characters in the book who are, essentially, representations of iconic spys from past TV series. In a previous short story, Bear did a slash-fic of what were clearly the two from Man From UNCLE, and they (essentially) appear here again. Also, we get a pair who represent the Avengers (the British sort, not the Marvel). There's some by-play that the Kuryakin character and the Purdey character have been involved in something else, which is clearly a reference to Saphire and Steel.
Thinking about it, I suspect there are many ways in which you would like this book (I don't think it's the *best* Promethean Age book, but it may be my favourite).
