Like you I recognised some of the stories from Kevin MacDonald's biography. For me this is even sharper than Powell's ideas in Peeping Tom - there's a line in TGP where someone says 'the best thing is to live and have adventures, the second best is to hear a story'. The appropriation of others' biographies for narrative ends is a queasy subject for many writers, but I've never seen such a disturbing connection drawn, and Pressburger sadly had the moral authority to do so.
