I am surprised you haven't seen "Brokeback Mountain" or "Interstellar" (I wouldn't recommend the latter, except for the wonderful robots).

"fucked-up, against the odds but [one hopes] not unsalvageable" would be a pretty good description of Hathaway's character in "Rachel Getting Married."
