May I suggest that you acquire one of the LED rechargeable lanterns? I just picked up a very small and bright one at the hardware store for about $15, and it takes AAA batteries but uses very little power. There are bigger models with solar cells for recharging (also have one of those...) and hand cranks for recharging too. The very best is the one that has a USB port for charging a phone or tablet, which is powered by the heat of a tea light.
