The House of Arden and Harding's Luck are much more muddled and less satisfying than The Story of the Amulet. The magic elements in particular seem very gimmicky at times. I read them as an adult, having wanted to read them for many years, and I still love them because of the OMG there is MORE NESBIT feeling, but I cannot say they are her best work.
