I don't think I've seen enough to really come up with a reasonable list of candidates, but it's got to be one of the great sexual-tension flicks of all time. There are gorgeous set pieces, too.

All right! Fine! I'm curious!

Oh, gosh, and Gregory Peck is so smoldery too...

Okay, that I have not seen very often.

I admit, there is a moment in this movie when modern audiences almost always laugh, because it is so very over the top and down the other side, so to speak, but it's intended as a Serious Dramatic Event and one has to shoo the Monty Python and Mel Brooks thoughts away and accept it on its own terms.

Fortunately, I have a very high threshold for taking things seriously. It sounds like it might come in handy for once in my life.

I haven't read anything about the history of Westerns, and most of my viewing has been later, slightly-to-entirely ironic productions, but this one is kind of Peak Western.

I don't think of myself as having seen a lot of Westerns, but I've almost certainly seen more than I think. Just probably not as many as I have other genres. I've really been catching up on my noir this year.
