I believe in doing what I can, crying when I must, laughing when I choose
I am not in any way, shape, or form all right with the death of Alan Rickman.
[edit] Apparently I cope by writing about a film he was in.

I can't fire 2016 because 2015 was so bad that I need a better year, but I would really appreciate with a cease-fire in the sudden deaths of artists and actors I like, admire, and find necessary presences in the world, especially when they are no older than my mother.

Ah right -- OK, 2016 needs to be saved by Amy Pond remembering and then Matt Smith pops up in a tux with a cane and a jaunty top hat. And then everyone dances at the wedding.
INCLUDING ALAN RICKMAN DAMMIT
also Jesus fuck people need to stop mentioning Tim Curry, I just can't

I know I can't ask anyone else not to die for the remainder of the year, because long exposure to folktales has taught me that this would be a horrible idea, but . . . yeah. If we're just frontloading the year with grief, maybe the rest of it will be functional.

One of my co-workers and I spent our break walking up and down and appreciating his humor, charm, and refinement together. All I want right now is some free time I don't have, to sit down and watch a lot of his work.

I got the news by e-mail: "WTF Alan Rickman?!?" I knew at once what that meant and was upset.

I felt just as blindsided as I did with Bowie, only in conjunction it feels even more unfair.

I know.

I had counted on having him around for years.

I know that loss is a normal part of the human condition, but I'd really have been all right with holding off a little on this one.

I did not have that many contemporary actors that I followed as I followed Rickman, like character actors from pre-Code or classic Hollywood. Now I'm worried about the rest of them.

Well, I just reviewed one, although I'm not sure it's the best to start with under the circumstances. I'm glad at least I saw Die Hard (1988) in his lifetime. I had just been looking forward to so much more.

I really mean it: tonight someone invoked these things come in threes and I would just prefer for them to be wrong.

Go for it, then, and I would love to hear what you think.
