I too have been thinking about family stories, for the same reasons. I've been thinking of my mother's mother Ida and how, when she first came as a teenager to Ellis Island, she was turned back (I'm not sure why). She went all the way back to Poland, but made the journey again and settled in Chicago, got married, and managed to get all her sisters out of Poland before the war, but not her brothers or her parents. I'm not sure whether the brothers or parents tried to get out, but I do know they didn't survive.

The present situation is incredibly distressing. Yes, one would've thought these things should have changed by now.
