Ein Todesengel steht in meines Zimmers Mitte

Of course there is a story there; it's Hennings' life. But there is also another story and someone I know had better write it.

Note that a decade before Brooks, she is already wearing a cropped bob. I know there had to have been WWI working-woman influence there, but did German cabaret give us the bob? Specifically, Emmy Hennings?

I am very annoyed that I never heard of her before. I thank you for the reveal.

She looks like a still from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Quite literally.

I love how I can't tell whether that's a skirt or trousers.

Wow. That needs to be told. It says a lot more than the portrait on Wikipedia.

To borrow a Henry Cow lyric: She's "the mama of Dada."
