Grave Socrates, wild Alcibiades

Rabbit, rabbit.

This morning I kissed each of the cats and wished them a happy Halloween. Today, I told them, you are a sacred animal. This was the most low-key Halloween I've celebrated since I can remember, but I find it very fitting that I closed it with a little black cat purring against me and licking my eyebrows while I read a very entertaining recipe for Halloween ramen. We still have a white pumpkin left over. Perhaps we'll carve it for All Souls' Day.

(Now that it is November, my flash "Anonymity" is now online at Mythic Delirium. Shakespeare, Marlowe, and the internet, late at night. Charlotte Ashley says nice things about it at Apex! Thanks to Michael Matheson and Mike Allen for letting me know. I hope it is prophetic for the month.)

I meant to post a selection of Halloween songs, but most of my day went toward a doctor's appointment and a complicated evening. Have a few anyway. We're not out of the dying year yet.

Buffy Sainte-Marie, "Lyke-Wake Dirge"

Every night and all

Carbon Leaf, "Follow the Lady"

She's assigned a witch to spell my heart and now I'm drawn to her

Globelamp, "Witch House"

And I met her at the crossroads
Where all souls do go
On and on and on

The Incredible String Band, "Witches Hat"

Stepping like a tightrope walker
Putting one foot after another
Wearing black cherries for rings

My Favorite, "Le Monster"

The streets were crawling with vampires
'Cause after your shelf life expires
You're not a kid, you're a monster, monster, monster

The Secret History, "Count Backwards (Rock 'n' Roll Never Dies)"

Bela Lugosi's dead and I don't feel so hot myself

The Watersons, "Souling Song"

An apple, a pear, a plum or a cherry
Any good thing to make us merry

Hallows, all.

Thanks for the music! I felt my costume last night was one of my best in quite some time, so I'm back in the Halloween game. I envy you the cats.

All Hallows!

I so love "Anonymity." Huzzah!

My muse has possessed me with strange heresies. Anon.

From the time I've first known you, when you've put up music by the group My Favorite, I always have done (and today did) a double-take, because at first I always think you're saying that that song is your favorite. Which is no doubt why the band chose the name, but.

I've always loved "Witches Hat"
